Mass shooting leaves at least four dead and dozens injured in Alabama

() – At least four people were killed and dozens injured in a mass shooting in Birmingham, Alabama, on Saturday night, the Birmingham Police Department said.

The incident took place shortly after 11 p.m. in the Five Points South area, according to police.

When officers arrived at the scene they saw two men and a woman who had suffered gunshot wounds and were “unresponsive,” Birmingham Officer Truman Fitzgerald said, adding that those victims were later pronounced dead at the scene by first responders. Other gunshot victims were identified in the area, and other victims arrived at local hospitals, Fitzgerald said.

A fourth victim was pronounced dead at an area hospital, Fitzgerald said.

“We have dozens of gunshot victims from this area,” Fitzgerald said. “I’m told at least four of those gunshot victims are life-threatening, the others have various injuries.”

Law enforcement believes multiple shooters fired multiple shots at a group of people and no suspects have been arrested in the case, Fitzgerald said.

Several law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, are assisting in the investigation, Fitzgerald said.
