What kind of content will Masahiro Sakurai create on YouTube?

Naturally, it is not a channel like those that are usually trending on YouTube. Masahiro Sakurai’s YouTube channel will be so focused on video games and could become something of a niche.

The Japanese creative revealed that his channel will offer content geared toward video game developers, as he will share thoughts on game development, details of his design philosophy, and general advice that he believes will help developers make “more fun games.”

Sakurai’s intention is to help developers improve, while he can make players know more about the process of developing a video game, which would make them enjoy them even more. Also, people in general might find this series interesting just to see what the job of a game developer is, something you don’t see every day. And why not? May this initiative invite children to become the developers of tomorrow.

The videos will be between 2 and 5 minutes long so that they are not heavy and thus make it easier for the viewers to remember or learn what Sakurai taught them.

The developer promised that he will talk about general knowledge stuff in the industry, but he won’t delve too much into the technical details, instead he plans to keep things simple. Likewise, he anticipated that he will not reveal the secret tricks of some developers that give the final product a magical charm.

“I want to try to help make gaming around the world a little more fun. (…) As niche as they are, I hope these videos offer unique value for posterity.”

All the public will be able to enjoy Masahiro Sakurai’s channel

Although the content will be focused on developers, it will also offer “a behind-the-scenes look at the methods and philosophies of the industry”, so it could be of interest to the general public.

“Whether they make video games or not, anyone who plays games should be able to feel more enjoyment from the hobby just by knowing more about them. Take it from someone who knows and loves video games from head to toe,” Sakurai said.

Regarding copyright, Sakurai mentioned that he hopes to show material or gameplay of the titles to be discussed, but that he will stick to the guidelines to avoid any kind of problem and said he hopes to be able to count on the understanding of the companies to carry out your project.

Interestingly, Nintendo has already given him the green light to show development versions and design documents of Super Smash Bros. in which he worked, so Sakurai is doing this thanks in part to Nintendo, although it is important to clarify that the Japanese company is not involved in this personal project.

In case you missed it: Masahiro Sakurai has thought about leaving video game development several times.

Sakurai will share his knowledge for the love of art

Masahiro Sakurai has not only gained recognition from the industry and the gaming community for being one of the best developers who also loves to play video games, but also because he is humble and even a philanthropist and altruist. As proof is his new initiative.

We say this because the best thing about this project is that Sakurai is not looking to make money. You read that right, all of her videos can be found on her YouTube channel and there will be no ads at the beginning, middle or end of playback.

“I hear you make more money the longer the video is, but I’ll keep things short and sweet,” the developer commented. “Since I have to pay my translators and video editors, I will lose more money the longer the series is, but I wanted to do it anyway. I think of this as an investment in the video game industry.”

It is a great gesture from Mr. Sakurai because it is important to mention that, although they are short segments in which he is seen speaking, the videos require production, editing and even animation. The knowledge of the creator should be valued, since he has been making video games for 33 years, but perhaps the most important thing is his experience as a player, since he has been playing more than he has been making games, something that helps him in his work, since he knows the needs and what the player should feel when playing. That said, it’s a great tool that indie developers should take advantage of and even companies, of which we know some, who would find Sakurai’s advice very useful.

Fans are already supporting Masahiro Sakurai’s channel

Sakurai invited those interested to like the video, subscribe and activate the bell not because he feels like a youtuber, but because he remembered that the channel is “extremely niche”, so it is likely that if the user does not do it, they will leave to appear in your recommendations.

Everyone seemed to follow Sakurai’s suggestion, because at the time of writing the note the english channel has 160,000 subscribers, while the Japanese he already has 149,000 subscribers. On the other hand, the presentation video has already been viewed 152,000 times.

At the time of writing the note, Sakurai’s channel has 3 videos. The first is the presentation one, the second shows all the projects that the developer has worked on, and the third is the first one that shows the content that will be discussed in the channel. In it, Sakurai shares the special effects that could make a game more effectively reflect a key hit or heavy hit in a video game.
