Marvel’s Spider-Man: user causes outrage for creating a homophobic mod

Marvel’s Spider-Man, one of the best PlayStation 4 exclusives, has finally arrived on PC in its remastered version. Unsurprisingly, the modding community immediately jumped on the scene to make all sorts of mods that expand on Insomniac Games’ oeuvre. However, one project stood out from the rest for all the wrong reasons.

If you have already played the title of the arachnid superhero, you will know that it is possible to find some Pride flags and murals throughout the city. In general, these are elements that the LGBTQIA + community greatly appreciates and that, obviously, do not affect the experience for the rest of the players.

After all, we must remember that Spider-Man looks after the welfare of all the citizens of New York. In fact, in the open world video games developed by Insomniac Games we hear that he lashes out on “conservative villains” and other hate groups on a couple of occasions.

Marvel’s Spider-Man Modder Removes All LGBTQIA+ Pride Flags

Despite all of the above, a user considered it prudent to make a mod that removes all LGBTQIA+ flags from the video game. As expected, the controversy broke out and the criticism was present.

According to the portal We Got This Covered (via thegamer), the modder who responds to the name Mike Hawk uploaded a mod named Non-Newtonian New York on the portal Nexus Mods during the morning of this Monday, August 15. In a matter of hours, the project got around 300 downloads.

As we already mentioned, the purpose of this modification is to remove all LGBTQIA+ Pride flags from Marvel’s Spider-Man and replace them with American flags. Needless to say, a sector of the community showed their outrage in the comments on the website and called the author homophobic. Of course, some players took the opportunity to make discriminatory comments.

Fortunately for some people, the mod in question disappeared from the specialized portal shortly after the controversy reared its head. A spokesman for Nexus Mods confirmed in statements to the media We Got This Covered that both Mike Hawk’s primary and secondary accounts were deleted.
