Mephisto is sounding strong for Phase 4 and Phase 5 of the UCM. Marvel has released several clues about this character, although we do not know if it is the illusions of the community for this interesting character related to Doctor Strange, Silver Surfer and Spider-Man. About the latter, do you know why Mephisto has an almost sick obsession with Peter Parker?
Mephisto first appeared in The Silver Surfer #3 1968. In the case of the big screen, the supervillain was played by Peter Fonda in Ghost Rider 2007 and by Ciaran Hinds in the sequel Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance from 2012.
Mephisto’s relationship with Spider-Man happens in the comic One More Day, where Parker makes a deal with him to save her aunt’s life in exchange for erasing all her memories with Mary Jane. Mephisto agrees and fulfills Spider-Man’s wish. However, the detail is that he does it to see him suffer even though deep down he is afraid of him.
It so happens that one day Doctor Strange asked Mephisto what his obsession with Peter Parker was. He replied that, in the future, whenever he was about to take over the Earth and fulfill his mission, Spider-Man would appear to defeat him. Like Strange, Mephisto has the ability to visualize the future and knows very well that Spider-Man (not necessarily Peter Parker, but all the alternate versions of the arachnid in different universes) will be responsible for his downfall.
Although Spider-Man has no idea of his fate in relation to Mephisto, the supervillain tries to make him suffer every chance he gets to get something in return for his impending defeat.
