Uber said in July, responding to reports in The Guardian and Le Monde: “We do not have and will not make excuses for past behavior that is clearly not in line with our current values.”
However, the company’s response was not enough and at a summit in Lisbon, MacGann said: “My message to Uber is: ‘You have done well, (but) you can do much better (because) the current model is not sustainable in absolute'”, referring to the problems that the company has around its drivers and delivery partners.
And he exemplified that there are Uber drivers who sue the company in several countries to “have a basic minimum of social protection, such as sick pay.”
“Uber is pumping tens of millions of dollars into Europe, the United States and other parts of the world to fight the legislation,” he said.
He further noted that Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi and his executive team “have done a lot of good things, but they have a lot, a lot to do.”
