María Corina Machado assures that she is not leaving Venezuela after Maduro speculated about an alleged departure

( Spanish) – Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado assured that she has no plans to leave the country, after President Nicolás Maduro said on Saturday, without evidence, that the former deputy “is preparing suitcases” to leave Venezuelan territory.

“Here we remain face to face with the Venezuelans, close, despite the circumstances,” he said this Monday during a virtual conference with the Foreign Press Association (APV) of Venezuela.

Machado assures that the presidential candidate of the opposition majority Edmundo González Urrutia “will be sworn in on January 10.” After denouncing that he was coerced by the Venezuelan authorities, González Urrutia traveled to Spain at the beginning of the month, where he received asylum and from where he has insisted that he will defend what for the opposition was its victory in the last elections, contrary to the announcements made the victory of Maduro, although without publishing results by center and voting station.

While Maduro allies such as Bolivia, Cuba, Nicaragua and Honduras have recognized their victory in the July 28 elections, there are countries such as Spain, Brazil and Colombia that have insisted that authorities must present disaggregated results. Other governments such as the United States and Argentina, as well as the European Parliament consider González Urrutia the winner of the elections, based on more than 80% of the minutes that the opposition published on the internet.

Machado reiterated that the fight for freedom in Venezuela has the support of the world.

“Venezuela is the priority in terms of hemispheric security and human rights in the West,” he added.
