A 36-year-old man died this Wednesday after a violent shooting in the city of Yafia, located in the metropolitan area of Nazareth, in northern Israel, amid an uptick in violence in Israeli Arab communities.
The Israeli Police have opened an investigation into the incident and have begun a search process for the suspects. The man, identified as Nazie Hatib, lived in the city of Yafia, according to the Kan radio station.
Hatib's death brings the number of victims of violence in Arab communities to 56 this year, almost ten percent more than the figure recorded at the same time last year, according to the NGO Abraham Initiatives. .
The endemic poverty of many of the residents of the Arab communities of northern Israel, further exacerbated by the latest series of economic crises as well as the situation in the Gaza Strip, is one of the factors driving this uptick in violence in the area.
