The Malian Army confirmed this Monday that it has repelled an attack against the airport in the city of Timbuktu and against a security post in the town of Ber, close to the aforementioned city, after which a large amount of weapons were seized. and drugs.

The military has confirmed that a series of terrorists carried out attacks on Sunday afternoon, after which Malian soldiers managed to neutralize “numerous” terrorists, according to a statement broadcast on national television and reported by the Malijet news portal.

A few hours after the attack, the Armed Forces managed to locate and neutralize two other vehicles belonging to alleged terrorists in the same region of the attacks and which were transporting both military material and combatants.

The African country is currently led by a military junta established after the coups d’état perpetrated in August 2020 and May 2021, both headed by Assimi Goita, current transitional president, who has led a rapprochement with Russia while distanced from both France and Western governments, including its departure in January – along with Burkina Faso and Niger – from the ranks of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
