Malaysia will hold early elections on November 19

Oct. 20 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Malaysia will hold early parliamentary elections on November 19, the country’s electoral commission said on Thursday.

Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob dissolved Parliament on October 10 and called for early elections, with the aim of consolidating power in the Southeast Asian country.

The Electoral Commission has set the day for the presentation of candidates on November 5, as reported by the president of the entity, Abdul Ghani Salleh, at a press conference.

A total of 222 parliamentary seats will be contested, in addition to the state seats of Perak, Pahang and Perlis.

The national vote is not scheduled until September next year, despite the fact that the incumbent prime minister’s party wanted to bring them forward to take advantage of the weak opposition situation and regain the mandate, reports Bloomberg.
