Malawi discovers a mass grave with 25 Ethiopian migrants

Oct. 20 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Malawi authorities have discovered a mass grave with the bodies of 25 Ethiopian migrants in a forest reserve in the Mzimba district in the north of the country.

The Malawi Police (MPS) has announced this Wednesday that it is investigating the case of more than twenty Ethiopian fatalities who are suspected of being victims of human trafficking.

“The evidence collected at the scene shows that the victims are Ethiopian nationals. All the victims are men between the ages of 25 and 40,” the National Police reported in a press release.

“The MPS is currently waiting for the ‘post mortem’ report to determine the real cause of death,” said the institution, which has asked citizens to inform the authorities “of the suspicion of any illegal migrant.”

Between January and September of this year, the country’s security forces have intercepted 221 illegal migrants, of which the vast majority –186– came from Ethiopia.
