He National Highway Institute (Invías) awarded this Friday the dredging works for the maintenance of the access channel to the port of Buenaventura to the enterprise European Dredging Company Colombia Branch.
The company, as things are, will have the obligation to “recover the depth both in the
external and internal bay of the port access channel“, according to Invías.

The works, which had an investment of more than 22,430 million pesos, will have a period of four months to deliver. The supervision of the contract will be awarded next week.
The maintenance work is intended to directly benefit 180,000 people who live in the second most populous city in the department of Valle del Cauca.

The port access channel has a length of 31.5 kilometers and it has an external bay of 13.5 meters (at high tide) and an internal bay of 12.5 meters (at low tide).
“The dredging will make it possible to recover the depth of the access channel, offering better conditions for navigability, which would guarantee an advantage over competitors in the region and the development of foreign trade activities without setbacks.“, he pointed Juan José Oyuela, CEO of Invíasadding that the project will allow the passage of larger vessels, reducing maintenance costs due to sedimentation, thus promoting the activation of the local and regional economy.

According to Invías, the port of Buenaventura mobilizes 33.6% of the cargo of merchandise and raw materials in the country, calculated at 19.7 million tons transported in 2022.
