The Moldovan president and candidate for re-election, the pro-European Maia Sandu, has obtained 51.34% of the votes after the counting of the 94.41% of the votes issued, according to preliminary data offered this Sunday by the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) of Moldova.
For almost all of the counting, Sandu was behind his rival in the second round of the presidential elections, the candidate of the pro-Russian Party of Socialists of Moldova, Alexandr Stoianoglobut it began to recover with the results of the voting abroad, where more than 300,000 Moldovans exercised their right to vote.
In fact, it was repeated in the script of the referendum on the inclusion in the constitution of Moldova of accession to the European Union as a national objective, in which it won Yes with 50.4% thanks to the vote abroad.
The consultation was held two weeks ago, simultaneously with the first round of the Moldovan presidential elections in which Sandu got 42.49% of the votes, far ahead of Stoianoglo, who obtained 25.95%.
According to preliminary data from the CEC, Stanianoglo obtained 51.21% of the votes, but Sandu’s advantage abroad is overwhelming: with 46.75% Of the votes counted, the president obtained 81%.
