Maduro reiterates that he will be sworn in for a third term on January 10

The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, assured this Monday that there will be no “fascism” or “imperialism” that could prevent him from being sworn in for a third term next Friday, January 10.

Maduro said that he received a new letter that reiterates the invitation to the Federal Legislative Palace, headquarters of the National Assembly, in Caracas, to be sworn in for the period 2025-2031, as established by the country’s Constitution.

“That is what is going to happen in Venezuela, the swearing-in on January 10, 2025, in peace, in national unity, together with the people. There will be no fascism, there will be no imperialism that can stop it,” he stated during a working meeting with officials of his government at the Miraflores Palace.

Maduro insisted that neither the opposition nor the “North American empire” will “dominate” Venezuela again.

Both Maduro and opposition leader Edmundo González Urrutia, recognized as president-elect by several governments, claim victory in the July 28 presidential elections.

Despite the insistence of the international community that requested transparent and verifiable results, the electoral body did not disclose disaggregated data, but the opposition published minutes that its table witnesses kept.

González Urrutia, who started a tour With the aim of seeking political support for January 10, he has expressed his intentions to return to the country this week to take office, but has not revealed details about how he plans to enter.

The Venezuelan authorities warned this Monday that if he arrives in the country he will be arrested, and they offer a $100,000 reward for his capture for the alleged commission of the crimes of “usurpation of functions, forging of a public document, instigation to disobedience of laws, conspiracy, sabotage to damage systems and association.”

Maduro reiterated that 125 alleged mercenaries of various nationalities, who supposedly traveled to Venezuela to attack the vice president, Delcy Rodríguez, have been captured. Furthermore, he insisted that the Argentine government is involved in these plans.
