MADRID Dec. 4 () –
The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, will give a speech this Thursday night following the fall of Michel Barnier’s Government, after a motion of censure backed by the left and the extreme right has been successful.
Macron, who returned to France this Wednesday after an official visit to Saudi Arabia, will speak at 8:00 p.m., according to the Elysée, which has not revealed the details of his speech. The president must now name a new prime minister to replace Barnier.
In recent months, the president has ruled out that his continuity could be at risk, although the opposition has taken advantage of the fall of the Government to point out the tenant of the Elysée, whom they consider ultimately responsible for the crisis.
“Even if there is a Barnier every three months, Macron will not last three years,” said former presidential candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon, of France Insoumise (LFI), on social networks.
The leader of the National Rally, Jordan Bardella, has said that they are “still” not asking for Macron’s resignation, despite the fact that his colleague Marine Le Pen has declared on TF1 that the president “is largely responsible for the current situation.”
