He reiterates that he will not leave office and will appoint a government in “the coming days”
Dec. 5 () –
The president of France, Emmanuel Macron, has assured that he will not be responsible for the “irresponsibilities” of the other parliamentary groups and has criticized both the left-wing coalition New Popular Front (NFP) and the far-right National Rally party for choosing the ” disorder” after having brought down the Government of Prime Minister Michel Barnier with a motion of censure.
Macron has highlighted that despite Barnier’s “concessions” to all parliamentary groups, the Government has fallen “because the extreme right and the extreme left have united in an anti-republican front”, something that “had not been seen in 60 years” .
“The forces that yesterday still governed France decided to help them,” he stressed in a speech to the nation, also accusing the deputies of the left and the extreme right of “thinking about the presidential elections.”
The French president has thus promised to name a government “of general interest” in “the coming days” that “represents all the political forces of an arc that can participate in it” or that undertakes not to censor it. Its objective will be, among other issues, to prepare a budget for the year 2025.
“Before mid-December, a special law will be presented to Parliament that will allow, as provided for in our Constitution, the continuity of public services and the life of the country,” he indicated, also recalling that his mandate ends in 30 months.
In this sense, Macron has once again insisted that he will not leave office. “The mandate that has been entrusted to me is five years and I will exercise it fully until its end,” he stressed, insisting that his responsibility is to “ensure the continuity of the State.”
Barnier had until now governed in a minority and, given the difficulty in approving the budgets, on Monday he resorted to article 49.3 of the French Constitution, which contemplates the possibility of approving laws by avoiding the parliamentary vote in exchange for having to submit to a motion of censure.
The New Popular Front has 182 deputies in the French Lower House, which, added to the 143 seats of Marine Le Pen’s National Group, have served to unseat the veteran politician, elevated by Macron to the Head of Government in a complicated political context. for the president.
