The French President, Emmanuel Macron, received this Friday in Paris the Prime Minister of Lebanon, Nayib Mikati, and the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, Joseph Aoun, to express his support for Beirut in the midst of an escalation in the Middle East due to the Israeli attacks against Iran.

“The President of the Republic reaffirmed France's commitment to do everything in its power to prevent the increase in violence between Lebanon and Israel, in accordance with resolution 1701 of the United Nations Security Council,” he indicated in a statement from the Elysée.

Likewise, Macron “recalled France's commitment” to the UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon (UNIFIL), headed by Spanish commander Aroldo Lázaro, as well as the “responsibility” that all actors have so that it can “fully exercise “their activities in the country.

In the same way, he has expressed “his determination to continue providing the Lebanese Armed Forces with the support they need.” Macron also spoke by phone with the president of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri, and asked political leaders “to finally find a way out of the institutional crisis that weakens Lebanon.”

This occurs after six months of confrontation between Hezbollah and Israel on the common border regarding the offensive launched by the Israeli Army following the attacks by Palestinian militias on October 7, which left 1,200 dead and 240 hostages.

The toll of Palestinians killed as a result of the offensive launched by Israel against the Gaza Strip after the attacks on October 7 by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) has exceeded the barrier of 34,000, as reported this Friday by the Gazan authorities. , controlled by the Islamist group.
