Macron confirms alternative plans for the opening of the Olympic Games in case of terrorist alert

April 15 () –

The president of France, Emmanuel Macron, confessed this Monday that the authorities are already working on alternative plans for the opening of the Paris Olympic Games in case there is a high risk of a terrorist attack and it is not safe to organize it in the Seine, where In principle, the parade of delegations will take place.

For the first time, the organization plans to take this symbolic ceremony out of a stadium and do it in the heart of the city, with a river parade on July 26 that will mark the starting signal for weeks of sports. However, France has been on maximum anti-terrorist alert since March, following the jihadist attack on an auditorium on the outskirts of Moscow.

“There are plans B and plans C,” said Macron, in an interview with BFM TV and RMC in which he proposed a ceremony limited only to the area surrounding the Trocadero square, next to the Eiffel Tower, or even returning to a traditional format and carry out all events at the Stade de France.

However, the president has stressed that “it is worth the effort” to make all the preparations for it to take place in the Seine and has stressed that the French authorities are working to ensure that all events surrounding the Olympic Games are safe. The analysis, he explained, takes place “in real time.”
