MADRID 29 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, has reiterated the importance of the ceasefire between Israel and the Lebanese group Hezbollah, “a fundamental stage” for both Lebanon and the entire region and which all parties must now respect, which implies the “immediate” cessation of “all actions” that contravene the agreement.
Macron, who has not singled out any of the parties despite the mutual reproaches between both, has spoken in recent days on several occasions with the main Lebanese authorities, including the Prime Minister, Nayib Mikati, and the President of Parliament, Nabih Berri, the Elysée reported this Friday.
He hopes that the ceasefire announced last Tuesday will work, with a view to “restoring the security of the Lebanese and Israelis, the safe return to their homes of all inhabitants on both sides of the Blue Line and respect for the sovereignty of Lebanon”.
France is committed in this area to supporting the work of the Lebanese Army, which is why it applauded that the Council of Ministers of this country has authorized the recruitment of 1,500 additional troops. The strengthening of the Lebanese Armed Forces was precisely one of the objectives of a summit held in October in Paris.
For Macron, it is also time for all Lebanese political actors to collaborate to “get out of the political crisis”, which is why he celebrated that Berri has called for next January 9 the session in which the country’s president will theoretically be elected. , a position that remains vacant.
“It is essential that a presidential election be held to allow the nomination of a Government that is capable of regrouping the Lebanese and adopting the necessary reforms for the sake of the stability and security of Lebanon,” stressed the French president.
