Macron affirms that no country should have to choose between fighting poverty and protecting the planet

June 22 () –

The French president, Emmanuel Macron, has affirmed this Thursday during the opening of a forum in Paris whose objective is to promote a reform of the international financial system that no country would have to choose between fighting poverty and protecting the planet.

“We must address these two challenges at the same time,” Macron said during the opening of the summit to establish a new global financial ‘road map’ in Paris, adding that all countries must “live up to” and “be responsible” for their actions.

In this sense, the French president has advocated this Thursday for promoting private financing to help the most vulnerable countries to face the double challenge of poverty and global warming, especially as a result of the impact that the war in Ukraine has had on their economies.

World leaders attended the summit, such as the Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, the President of the European Commission, Ursula Von der Leyen, or the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohamed bin Salmán, among others.

The meeting, proposed by Macron and the Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Mottley, last November, will discuss numerous issues in round tables, including debt restructuring and a reform of both the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. .
