MADRID Jan. 6 () –
The president of France, Emmanuel Macron, accused billionaire Elon Musk this Monday of nurturing a “reactionary international” on his social network ).
“Ten years ago, what if we had been told that the owner of one of the largest social networks in the world would support a new reactionary international movement and directly intervene in elections, even in Germany? Who would have imagined it? Macron lamented in a speech this Monday before his ambassadors.
“This is the world we have had to live in and with which we have to deal through diplomacy,” he indicated.
Far from rectifying, Musk has redoubled his support for the German far-right party in recent days and announced that this week he will debate the next German elections with the AfD candidate for the chancellorship, Alice Weidel, on his platform.
Macron then extended his hand to the president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump – who is going to put Musk in a position in his second administration – by ensuring that “he knows he has a solid ally in France” although he has warned that he will not exhibit weaknesses before the president.
“From 2016 to 2020, France knew how to work with President Trump,” Macron said, referring to the Republican’s first term.
“If we decide to be weak and defeatist, there is little chance of being respected by President Trump’s United States, so we have the challenge of knowing how to cooperate with the decision made by the American people,” he indicated.
