Lula lands in Shanghai, the first stop on his official visit to China

The President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, landed this Wednesday in China, at the Shanghai airport, along with a delegation made up of politicians from different parties and businessmen, on the occasion of his three-day official visit, in which Among other issues, he will meet with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping.

Before meeting with the Chinese leader, it is expected that on Thursday he will attend the inauguration ceremony of the recently elected head of the New Development Bank, the financial entity of the BRICS –Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa–, Former Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff.

Immediately afterwards, Lula will visit one of the facilities of the technology company Huawei and finally will close Thursday’s agenda by meeting with the head of the Chinese Communist Party, Chen Jining, also in the city of Shanghai.

On Friday he will head to Beijing to meet President Xi, with whom he will sign about twenty agreements on the environment, trade and cooperation. The war in Ukraine is also expected to be a matter of debate, both leaders having shown themselves to be in favor of an alternative and negotiated solution to a conflict that has been going on for fourteen months.

Before returning to Brazil, Lula will make one last stop on Saturday in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, to meet officially with the Emir of Dubai, Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum.
