Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is in stable condition following head trauma caused during a domestic accident that left him with an injury to the back of his head and forced him to cancel international trips last week.
The agency Reuters reported, citing the medical report, that Lula, 78 years old, will undergo new medical examinations in three days, as part of the follow-up to the fall at his home on Saturday, October 19.
Lula’s doctors said that the president can work normally.
Lula suffered a fall at his home and was admitted to the Sírio-Libanês Hospital in Brasilia, according to the official information released.
One of Lula’s doctors, Dr. Roberto Kalil, said at the beginning that the blow had caused him a “major” trauma, which required stitches and caused a “small brain hemorrhage.”
Due to the injury, Lula did not travel to Russia last week, when the BRICS Summit was held. The Brazilian presidency said then that the trip was canceled due to a “temporary impediment to long-term flights.”
The president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, made a call to Lula on Tuesday, October 22and for about 20 minutes he asked about his state of health and “regretted” his absence from the event. However, Lula attended through a videoconference.
Lula also did not travel to Cali, Colombia, where his attendance at the Climate Change Summit was expected. [COP16].
