March 10 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Government of Belarus has confirmed this Friday that President Alexander Lukashenko will travel to Iran on Sunday as part of a brief state visit that will take him to meet his Iranian counterpart, Ebrahim Raisi.

The main issue to be addressed between the two presidents will revolve around bilateral development, with an emphasis on trade and economic cooperation, as well as issues related to industry, agriculture and transportation, the BelTA agency reports.

Iran and Belarus have become one of Russia’s few allies in the war in recent months and, in fact, Raisi and Lukashenko plan to address precisely the current situation in the region.

One of the main central events of Lukashenko’s visit to Iranian lands involves the signing of a ‘road map’ for comprehensive cooperation between Minsk and Tehran. The Belarusian president will also meet with the Iranian Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Both leaders already held a meeting in mid-September during the summit in Samarkand (Uzbekistan) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), an intergovernmental body made up of nine countries from the Asian continent. Already on that occasion, Lukashenko and Raisi instructed their foreign ministers to review and intensify diplomatic relations.
