Lufthansa flights in Germany canceled due to staff strike

The Lufthansa airline will cancel all its flights in Frankfurt and Munich on Wednesday.

The reason for this strike is warning strike planned by its ground staff throughout Germany.

At Frankfurt airport, the third largest in Europe, the cancellation will apply to 678 flights. In Munich, there will be 345. A measure that will affect a total of 134,000 passengers.

That is why the company has described the strike as “inadmissible“.

On July 13, Lufthansa proposed a salary increase of 150 euros per month for its 20,000 employees for 18 months.

Nevertheless staff representatives consider this proposal “insufficient”.

Ver.di, the German services union that is in negotiations with Lufthansa, calls for a salary increase of 9.5%, which represents at least 350 euros per month.

Despite its tense economic situation after the pandemic, Lufthansa intends to find a quick solution.

The next round of negotiations is expected on August 3-4.
