The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, said on Tuesday that he will discuss government cooperation to deal with drug trafficking during a visit to Colombia in September.

“In the case of Colombia, one of the issues to be discussed is cooperation to deal with the problem of drug trafficking,” the president said at his morning press conference.

On Monday, the Colombian presidency quoted President Gustavo Petro on Twitter confirming López Obrador’s visit in September. “It is time to propose new, more effective strategies,” Petro said, quoted in the tweet.

The Mexican ruler has also announced that he will travel to Chile in September to be part of the official commemoration in the South American country for 50 years since the 1973 military coup.

López Obrador will be in Colombia on September 8 and 9 and will then travel to Chile on September 10 and 11.
