Back in April, Meta announced the opening of the Quest headset operating system to other hardware manufacturers. At that time it was mentioned that the company was already working with firms such as Asus, Lenovo and Microsoft, hinting at its possible use with PC or console games, but Logitech has arrived first with the launch of MX Ink, a digital pen that It becomes the first officially supported device with tracking capabilities.

Designed for use with mixed reality environments, MX Ink is a tool that seeks to replicate the operation of the classic stylus but in semi-virtual environments, providing a high level of precision (according to Logitech) when manipulating 2D and 3D shapes, either in fully three-dimensional environments or superimposed on the real image captured by the viewer.

An interesting detail about MX Ink is that it has been designed to work in conjunction with the official Meta Quest controllers, and in fact, it is possible to use two controllers and a stylus simultaneously.

The possibilities of use of the Logitech MX Ink are intriguing to say the least. In addition to allowing you to draw or model freehand, directly on air, the pencil has a pressure-sensitive tip that makes it possible to “trace” real objects or draw on them, so that the strokes are replicated on their virtual copy.

As for app support, the pen is compatible with tools like Painting VR, ENGAGE XR, OpenBrush, Arkio, as well as Gravity Sketch and Adobe Substance 3D Modeler. Beyond its artistic potential, the detail that it has been designed to work with Elucisa virtual reality tool that allows you to plan surgical operations.

As noted by Logitech, the MX Ink pen will be sold along with its charging base starting in September. Without knowing the price for Spain, in the United States it will cost $169. Optionally, you can also purchase a low friction resistance mat (MX Mat), which will cost $49.
