July 25 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Libyan Ministry of the Interior has reported on Monday that it has found the lifeless bodies of five sub-Saharan migrants in an area near the border with Tunisia.
The Libyan authorities, who have indicated that they have found the bodies in the patrolling of the security forces to secure the western borders, have announced that an investigation has been launched into what happened.
Dozens of migrants are stranded on the border between the two countries, since the Tunisian authorities have forcibly transferred many of those who were in the port city of Sfax to “remote” areas of the desert, where high temperatures are being registered and where they are without water and food.
It should be remembered that numerous NGOs have accused the Tunisian government of encouraging a campaign of xenophobic violence against sub-Saharan migrants who use the country as a springboard to reach Europe. And it is that Tunisia has become in recent years one of the main starting points for boats with which migrants from the country and those arriving from sub-Saharan Africa try to make the crossing through the Mediterranean Sea to Europe.
In fact, this month, the European Union and Tunisia have signed an agreement whereby the North African country agrees to cooperate with Brussels on immigration in exchange for a financial aid package estimated at around 900 million euros.
