LG has launched a new telephoto lens module that promises to improve the quality of images taken with these cameras.and it is that although it is common to see how many periscope-type cameras use a combination of optical and digital zoom in smartphones, LG promises to get rid of this.
For this, an actuator is used with a precision of one micrometer, able to move in a zoom range between 4 and 9x without perceptible stepssomething similar to what we would find in the focus mechanism of a DSLR or Mirrorless camera, where the focus is not done by means of magnetic fields as in a Smartphone, Rather, a motor moves different gears and lenses mechanically.
According to PhoneArenathis lens is fully compatible with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, so probably we will find it in a future launch of brands such as Xiaomi, OnePlus, Motorola, Oppo, or even Apple, LG Innotek’s main client.
The latter is important, because if the quality improvement is noticeable enough, we could see how the iPhone 15 Pro Max –or whatever the top of the range is called when it launches– features a periscope lens of this style.
