The Lebanese authorities have presented this Wednesday another complaint against Israel before the United Nations Security Council for the “continuous bombings” suffered by the country in recent weeks and have asked the organization to condemn the Israeli “aggression” as soon as possible.
The Lebanese Foreign Ministry has thus presented a new complaint through its permanent representation in New York, where the UN headquarters is located, and has warned that Israeli forces continue to bomb “emergency medical assistance centers and civilian populations.” .
Thus, he has urged the Security Council to “force Israel to commit to resolution 1701”, which was approved in 2006 and which led to the end of the conflict that year between the Israeli Army and the Shiite militia party Hezbollah.
This new complaint has been presented in the context of the attacks perpetrated against the country between October 3 and 14, as explained by the Ministry, which also asks to condemn the “invasion of Lebanese territory” and “immediately stop the aggressive acts of Israel”.
Last week, Lebanon’s acting prime minister, Nayib Mikati, called on the United Nations to approve a resolution calling for “an immediate ceasefire” with Israel and the application of resolution 1701, while emphasizing that the party-militia Shiite Hezbollah “supports” that it be materialized in its entirety.
“We are committed to our rights and our territory and we have repeatedly shown Lebanon’s commitment to resolution 1701 in other international events,” he said then, before stressing that the invasion of the country is “totally unacceptable.”
However, Israel describes its invasion, unleashed on October 1, as a “selective and limited” operation against Hezbollah’s “terrorist targets and infrastructure.” The offensive was launched after nearly two weeks of intensified attacks and has been paralleled by an intensification of bombings against the capital, Beirut, and other areas of the country.
