Leader of the transnational gang Tren de Aragua arrested in Colombia

Colombian authorities announced the capture of the top leader in Bogotá of the transnational gang Tren de Aragua, after an operation in a town in the east of the country, where he had fled following several police raids in the capital.

This is Salomón Fernández Torres, alias ‘El Salomón’, who according to the Colombian Police obeyed the orders of the top leader of this criminal organization known as ‘El Niño Guerrero’.

“In Bogotá, the leader focused his criminal activities mainly in different sectors of the city, with monthly earnings ranging between 2 and 3 billion pesos (about 487,000 and 730,400 US dollars),” the police said in a statement.

They also added that the detainee “was in charge of leading all criminal operations in the capital and the neighboring municipality of Soacha.”

“To pressure the payment of extortionate fees, he ordered shooting and throwing explosive devices at establishments and even attacking the integrity of their owners,” they stated.

According to police, ‘El Salomón’, who was involved in drug trafficking, homicides, extortion, kidnappings and forced disappearances, fled Bogotá on May 30 after a raid in which 27 members of this transnational criminal gang were arrested.

The man was captured in the town of Aguazul, in the eastern department of Casanare.
