Le Pen calls for early elections to resolve political crisis in France

September 14 () –

The leader of the far-right National Rally party, Marine Le Pen, defended this Saturday the need to call legislative elections as soon as possible after President Emmanuel Macron appointed conservative Michel Barnier as prime minister despite the fact that the last elections were won by the left-wing coalition New Popular Front.

“The Constitution prohibits dissolution before a year, except perhaps in the event of new presidential elections. So there are ten months left,” said Le Pen during an appearance at the headquarters of the French National Assembly.

“In ten months there will be new parliamentary elections, in spring or autumn (…). I have been very clear: no prime minister would suit us, apart from Jordan Bardella,” she argued, according to her social media account.

Le Pen explained that “we only demand that the Prime Minister be respectful of the eleven million French people who voted for the National Rally.”

The far-right leader has referred again to the “migratory disorder” that, according to her, implies “uncontrolled borders and the inability to enforce rules and laws.” “Justice (is) at the service of immigrants and not of sovereignty and associations, which have gone completely astray and are serving traffickers,” she said.

“Today everything is a disaster. The economic chaos, with this oligarchy that plunders the State and the multinationals (…). Social chaos as well as fiscal chaos, which results in record taxes,” he complained.

For Le Pen, “the majority of French people recognise that the most credible party at the national level is the National Rally” and she has highlighted the significant increase in electoral support for her party. “Twenty-six months ago there were six of us. Today there are 126 of us. The National Rally is a central party that has a considerable influence on French political life,” she stressed.
