Le Pen accuses Macron of “discrediting the institutions” with the pension reform

16 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The leader of the far-right French opposition party National Rally, Marine Le Pen, has reproached Macron for “discrediting the institutions” with controversies such as the pension reform.

“The reality is that Emmanuel Macron takes amazing pleasure in pitting the French against each other, beating the French people and ruling against them,” Le Pen said during his speech on French RTL television.

In particular, he has criticized the “childish” speed with which Macron has promulgated the pension reform law. “This pension reform shows that it is in a provocative mood,” he added.

Thus, he has warned Macron that it is not possible to “govern against the French” and has suggested “three solutions” to “get out of the conflict”: the referendum, the dissolution of the National Assembly or his resignation. “I think that you cannot avoid one of these three solutions if you want to respect the spirit of our institutions,” he argued.

For Le Pen “we have a completely burnt-out prime minister, a discredited government, a disputed president, a restless National Assembly and a majority mired in doubt.”

Regarding her political future, Le Pen has assured that today she is “the natural candidate” of the National Group for the 2027 elections, although she has acknowledged that “it may not be like that in three years”.

About his father, the historic far-right leader Jean-Marie Le Pen, hospitalized on Saturday, Le Pen has sent a message of tranquility. “I haven’t seen it yet, but it will be soon. It’s fine. That’s the essential information,” he said.

“My father is coming to his 95th birthday in a great way and so, from time to time, a few visits to the hospital are necessary to make adjustments,” he explained.

Le Pen is currently leading the polls ahead of the presidential elections, followed by the leader of the left bloc, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, and Macron himself, who has sunk in the polls due to protests against the reform that raises the retirement age from 62 to 64.
