Following President Joe Biden’s announcement that he will allow undocumented spouses of U.S. citizens to apply for permanent residency, and eventually citizenship, without leaving the country, immigration attorneys and activists warn that many migrants may be exposed to unscrupulous people who try to scam them.

“This is not the time to pay a lawyer or a notary. Don’t pay fees because we still don’t know where the applications are going to be sent, how much it will cost and what the requirements will be in detail.”
In addition, they remember that since it is a presidential decree, the new immigration measure could face lawsuits in federal courts.

Activists describe President Biden’s immigration measure as a good opportunity for almost half a million people, although they receive it with caution. They warn that when migrants take advantage of a program of this type, all the information they provide remains in the hands of the immigration authorities.
