The Trending Taiwan Short Film Competition was launched on July 16, with the aim of promoting the nation around the world, according to the Taiwanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA, acronym in English).
Organized by MOFA’s International Information Service Department, the 10th annual competition will accept entries from around the world until Oct. 10. Entries are sought that showcase Taiwan’s resilience and vitality, and that feature inspiring stories or moments of beauty in the nation.

The competition consists of two categories. The Creative Theme category invites submissions in the traditional horizontal orientation format (landscape) of no more than three minutes, while the Short Style Video category Reel (shorts) encourages submissions of vertically oriented works of 60 seconds or less. Special Student Award winners will be selected from all entries.

In the Creative Theme category, the first prize is worth NT$250,000 (about US$7,675) in cash. There are two second prizes of NT$120,000 cash each and three third prizes of NT$80,000 with five distinction prizes of NT$50,000 each.
In the category Reelcash prizes of NT$80,000, NT$50,000 and NT$40,000 will be awarded to the first, second and third place winners respectively. The two winners of the Special Student Prize will each receive NT$50,000.
Winning works will be subtitled in various foreign languages for dissemination on Trending Taiwan’s social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X and YouTube, and made available to Taiwanese overseas offices for promotional use.
First launched in 2015, the contest is one of MOFA’s most successful digital diplomacy initiatives, having received nearly 1,200 entries to date from citizens in France, India, Malaysia, and Switzerland, among other countries.
