PARK CITY, Utah – The 40th edition of the Sundance Film Festival It started on Thursday in the snow of Park City and on its first day various personalities of the stature of Kristen Stewart, Christopher Nolan, Melissa Barrera, Normani and Pedro Pascal.
The first day of activities began with an opening gala held at the DeJoria Center in Utah. During the party, which allowed non-profit organizations to raise funds to support independent artists, various awards were given to those personalities who have stood out for their work in the seventh art.
Jason Blum, CEO and Founder of the Board of Trustees of the Blumhouse Institute and Sundance, reiterated the importance of the Festival, which in 2024 celebrates its fourth decade of existence: “Sundance is a vital part of the entertainment ecosystem, and I think it’s undervalued in that way. Without Sundance, America wouldn’t be where it is in entertainment, and I really don’t think enough people make that connection.”
It was to the applause of the public that stars like Christopher Nolan, Kristen Stewart, Pat Mitchell, Celine Song and Maite Alberdi became the celebrants of the night.

Other celebrities who made their mark during the first day of Sundance activities were Pedro Pascal, star of the acclaimed film “Freaky Tales”and Mexican actress Melissa Barrera, who heads the cast of the dramatic comedy “Your Monster”.
The success of “Freaky Tales” was such that the organization announced an extra showing of the film this Saturday that was not on the festival calendar.
For its part, The Chilean actor was crowned as one of the favorites of the night during his appearance at the presentation of the film directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. Posing alongside him were his cast mates: Jay Ellis, Normani K. Hamilton, Jack Champion, Keir Gilchrist, and Eric “Sleepy” Floyd.
Her time on the red carpet did not go unnoticed and questions about her “feud” with Emmy winner Kieran Culkin were not lacking. As a result, she sent him a brief but powerful message: “Be nicer… to me,” she said in front of the cameras at Sundance.
Later, the cast and crew, as well as friends and industry guests, celebrated at the most popular party of the night in Park City, a small town that during the rest of the winter is mostly filled with ski enthusiasts.
Among the list of productions that debuted on the night of January 18 are: “Thelma,” directed by Josh Margolin, “Never Look Away” by Lucy Lawless, “Girl State,” directed by Jesse Moss and Amanda McBaine, and “Stress Positions,” directed and written by Theda Hammel.
