Yolanda Díaz: “I summon employers and unions to sit down again in collective bargaining”
The Second Vice President and Minister of Labor, Yolanda Díaz, has asked employers and unions to return to the negotiating table to reach an agreement that results in a salary increase. “I ask the Spanish employers, I call on the social agents, to return to the table of the AENC, to reach a salary agreement”, she has indicated in an appearance before the media.
“Returning to the negotiating table is key, for the good of the country. They have always been up to the task and I ask them to sit down again”, she repeated. On May 5, the dialogue was broken to reach a state collective bargaining agreement, the so-called AENC, which serves as a reference for the negotiation of companies and sectors throughout the State.
Díaz has urged a change of pace on the part of the employers, of the CEOE, which “was at the height of the country”, in the different agreements between the social agents during and after the pandemic, such as the labor reform. “An employer’s association not on the side, which was capable of acting for the good of the country”, the Minister of Labor has influenced.
He has also pointed out that the unions did not demand a wage increase linked to the rise in inflation. “I am not part of that negotiation, I am not at that table, but I have access to the documents and I have access to what they have raised. The unions have never asked to index the CPI. There was never any talk of indexing the IPC”, he stressed.
“Salaries in Spain have grown at 2.5% and inflation at 10.4%. Wages are not the cause of inflation. It is not a crisis caused by demand”, stressed Díaz.
On Monday, in an interview on Cadena Ser, the minister again defended the demonstrations announced by the unions to demand the revaluation of wages, considering that “they have reasons to go out on the streets against the bosses.”
