The feminist sector of the PSOE against the trans law sees “unacceptable” that the party decides not to modify gender self-determination
The feminist sector of the PSOE FEMES considers “unacceptable not to touch the self-determination of sex” in the amendments to the trans bill. These days, PSOE and the Government are working on these amendments and as confirmed by this wording, ruling out touching on gender self-determination, they will focus mainly on article 65 of the draft, more specifically on the mention of the application of the law on gender violence , given that not the greatest concern in the socialist ranks has to do with the comparison of other forms of violence with gender violence.
In a statement issued this Friday, from FEMES they assure that this is “a flight forward out of sheer cowardice” and condemn this decision: “With everything that the critical feminist movement with the trans law is arguing in relation to women and minors is It is ridiculous to think that the modification of the article related to gender violence will silence such discomfort”.
FEMES reiterates that the trans law drafted in the current terms “has clear overtones of unconstitutionality” in addition to the fact that, in its opinion, “it violates the rights of women and leaves children unprotected.” Thus, they describe as “politically irresponsible”, written in capital letters in the note, that the PSOE “does not consider amending it seriously and rigorously.”
“A law that does not attend to common sense, that does not take into account public unrest and that does not attend to the just demands that are the subject of debate today, is a law that is stillborn. It cannot win or convince”, they settle.
