The madriñela electoral campaign moves to the prairie of San Isidro
The mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida and the deputy mayor Begoña Villacís celebrate this Monday the last San Isidro of their term, coinciding with the electoral campaign of the municipal and regional governments on May 28. The candidates will travel to the San Isidro meadow in Madrid, which will become the center of the campaign in the capital this Monday.
In this way, the municipal and regional candidates will stop the campaign to attend the institutional act where the maximum recognition of the city is delivered. The regional president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso; the former mayors Alberto Ruiz-Gallardón, Ana Botella and José María Álvarez del Manzano, as well as the former Madrid presidents Esperanza Aguirre and Cristina Cifuentes.
Martínez-Almeida has declared that May 15 is “a great opportunity for the people of Madrid to claim their culture”. “We recognize ourselves precisely where we come from and San Isidro, our patron, is a humble farmer who made work and effort the norm of his entire life; I think it is a good source of inspiration for the people of Madrid, even though it is a public holiday, to go out and celebrate, go to the Pradera, to any of the shows that are in the city of Madrid”, he proposed.
In addition, the councilor will go to Las Ventas in the afternoon to enjoy the traditional San Isidro bullfight, because “bullfighting is one of the hallmarks” of the country and the region. “I will take the opportunity to vindicate it and to celebrate the day of our patron in the Plaza de las Ventas,” he says.
On the occasion of this festivity, the City Council will also award the Gold and Madrid Medals that will go to more than a dozen personalities such as the singer Alaska and the journalist Ana Rosa Quintana.
