Last-minute negotiations to avoid 'default' in the US

First modification:

The meeting this Monday afternoon between the Democratic president and the Republican president of the House of Representatives will be key to avoiding a debt crisis.

Report by Washington correspondent Cristóbal Vásquez

After a phone call they had on Sunday night, President Joe Biden and the Speaker of the House of Representatives resumed talks and this Monday the two leaders will meet for the third time this month to reach an agreement on the limit of the debt.

According to the Treasury Department, the term to increase the debt expires on June 1st. Republicans in Congress are asking Biden to cut government spending so that Republicans will approve raising the debt limit.

However, Biden does not want to compromise on helping student debt and creating green energy. After his arrival from Japan where he was at the G-7 summit, Biden told reporters that the call with Congress President Kevin McCarty went very well and that the negotiating teams have already met to reach an agreement before the deadline and avoid the economic consequences that a default.

In fact, the two teams met in Congress for two and a half hours, and will continue on Monday morning before the meeting that the two leaders will have in the afternoon. It is worth mentioning that the leader of Congress has a divided party and the most radical wing is pressing him to cancel the negotiations with Biden.
