The case of the ERE of Andalusia faces this week the last chapter of its judicial career. The plenary session of the Constitutional Court plans to study and sentence the first appeals of Andalusian politicians sentenced to prison and disqualification for the aid system of the Andalusian Government which, according to the judges, distributed hundreds of millions of euros from public coffers without control during the governments of the socialists José Antonio Griñán and Manuel Chaves. These convictions for prevarication and embezzlement come into question not only because of the resources of the convicted: the Prosecutor’s Office also questions part of the convictions, two judges of the Supreme Court disagree about the embezzlement of public money and the draft sentence that the court of guarantees will study. proposes upholding, at least in part, the allegations of the former leaders of the Board.
The Supreme Court ruled firmly that in Andalusia there existed for more than a decade an aid system that, in practice, led to a total lack of control in the awarding of almost 700 million euros. The money should have gone to companies and workers, but it was distributed arbitrarily. The sentences varied between disqualification for the crime of prevarication and imprisonment for embezzlement: the former Andalusian president José Antonio Griñán, among others, was sentenced to six years in prison and the former president Manuel Chaves was also disqualified for nine years.
