Analytics and reporting firm TrendForce Has published its data related to the evolution of laptop sales in recent months and, more specifically, in the forecasts for the first quarter of this year 2023.
That 2022 has generally been a bad year for sales of PCs of all kinds is no surprise. Different factors such as the shortage of components, the increase in inflation and a new crisis, together with the end of many restrictions of the pandemic among other things, have caused the record sales that were reached in 2020 and 2021 to plummet.
The laptop market has not been an exception, and after sales fell by 24.5% in 2022 compared to 2021, now TrendForce explains that the decline is expected to continue more moderately, but with a decrease of 7, 8% that would leave expected sales at 171 million units in 2023 (In 2022, 186 million laptops were sold according to their data).
Compared to last quarter, the decrease would be 9.5%, reaching sales of 35.1 million units and reaching the lowest figures in the last 10 years.
Subsequently, a growth in the sale of these devices is expected thanks to the push of emerging markets such as Vietnam or India, although the global situation still shows a lot of uncertainty in the face of the trade war between the US and China and the war in Ukraine.
