Lapid promises a forceful response to attacks from Gaza amid new Israeli operations

July 17 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Israel’s Prime Minister, Yair Lapid, has promised this Sunday that his country will respond “quickly and forcefully” to any new attack from the Gaza Strip like the one that occurred yesterday morning, while Israeli and Palestinian forces have staged new Clashes early this morning in the West Bank town of Tubas.

“The policy of this government has not changed,” Lapid declared this Sunday after taking office on July 1. “In the face of any incendiary balloon, we will respond quickly and forcefully, and without hesitation,” he said in full Sunday’s council of ministers, reports the ‘Times of Israel’.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) denounced on Friday the launch of two missiles from the Gaza Strip and that they were heading towards the city of Ashkelon, in the south of the country. The Army managed to intercept one of the projectiles with its ‘Iron Dome’ anti-aircraft system, while the other hit an open area without causing damage.

Meanwhile, in Tubas, at least three Palestinians have been injured as a result of the clash with Israeli forces who entered the city to arrest a Palestinian under search and arrest warrant.

“The military opened fire on armed men who were shooting at them and on other individuals” who were throwing Molotov cocktails at the military deployment. A person in charge of the Islamic Jihad terrorist group assumed responsibility for the shooting on behalf of the group.

Palestinian medical services have confirmed through Red Crescent teams that the injured Palestinians were shot in the lower limbs and that their lives are not in danger, the official Palestinian Wafa news agency reports.
