Labor income increases 275 pesos in one year

At the national level, between the first and second quarter of this year, purchasing power of the average real labor income per capita showed an increase of 2.2% from 3,277.58 to 3,350.84 pesos per month, that is, had an increase of around 73.26 pesos.

States with the highest income

The report details that 30 states had an increase in income in this area and the three entities with the greatest increase were the following:

  • Mexico City (25.3%)
  • Veracruz (21.7%)
  • Campeche (15.4%).

Men earn more than women

In the second quarter of 2024, the average real labor income of the employed population nationwide was 7,441.06 pesos per month.

Employed men reported a real monthly labor income of 8,137.81 and women of 6,450.51.

In relative terms, in the second quarter of 2024, the income of employed men was approximately 1.3 times higher than that of women.

However, the average real labor income of employed women increased by 2.5%, that is, to a greater extent than that of employed men, which increased by 1.3% between the first and second quarter of 2024.

Working poverty decreased

At the national level, working poverty decreased by 2.8% between the second quarter of 2023 and the second quarter of 2024, which was reflected in a decrease in working poverty in 28 of the 32 federal entities.

Veracruz stood out with a decrease of 10.4 percentage points, Campeche with 6.2, and Nayarit with 6.1.

Coneval recalls that the Index of the Labor Poverty Trend (ITLP) is an indicator that monitors quarterly the evolution of labor income and its relationship with the cost of the food basket, that is, the percentage of people in working poverty.
