Labor inclusion in Latin America and the Caribbean

For ECLAC, labor inclusion is an objective of inclusive social development that seeks to ensure that all members of the labor force have access to decent jobs that ensure adequate levels of remuneration and social protection coverage. In practice, labor inclusion is made up of (i) insertion in the labor market and (ii) the conditions of the job that is accessed. Women, youth, people with disabilities, people in a situation of poverty, Afro-descendants, Indigenous Peoples and other populations that are at the intersection of the structuring axes of the matrix of social inequality face greater obstacles and barriers to labor inclusion. In this sense, it is not possible to achieve sustainable economic growth if it does not come hand in hand with the creation of productive jobs that take into account the social vulnerability of the labor force and the structural factors that sustain inequality and poverty in the region.
