La France Insoumise (LFI) published this Saturday its proposal to request the dismissal of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, for refusing to declare Lucie Castets, candidate of the New Popular Front, the left-wing coalition of which he is a part and winner of the last legislative elections, as Prime Minister of the country during government negotiations.
LFI denounces that Macron – who has rejected Castets “for the sake of stability” and who to this day has not commented on his chosen one – has committed a “serious negligence in his duties” and asks the deputies to join this initiative. The party, it should be remembered, is the one that received the most seats (71) of the 180 obtained by the New Popular Front.
“The National Assembly, like the Senate, can and must defend democracy against the authoritarian temptations of the President of the Republic,” says the petition reported by ‘Le Monde’.
Macron’s refusal “constitutes a serious dereliction of duty in relation to the will expressed by universal suffrage” and that the role of the president “is not to get involved in political machinations, nor does the Constitution give him the right to elect whomever he wants.”
The impeachment procedure is provided for in the Constitution, but it seems very difficult because it requires the approval of two-thirds of the deputies and part of the left-wing coalition has expressed serious doubts about the usefulness of the proposal presented by LFI.
