The Ukrainian government has reported this Sunday new military advances in the Bakhmut region, one of the strategic battles in recent months.

“Our units have captured more than ten enemy positions in the north and south of Bakhmut and have taken off a large wooded area near Ivanivske,” Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar explained in a message posted on Telegram.

In the operation, Russian soldiers have also been captured while the Ukrainian forces continue to advance “against all odds.” “At this moment a meter is worth 10 kilometers due to the complexity of the task”, he highlighted.

Despite these advances, the situation in the Bakhmut area remains tense due to the resistance of the Russian forces, Maliar acknowledged. “The enemy has gathered all of his forces there and is trying to advance destroying everything in his path. Heavy fighting continues,” he added.

Ukraine has made gains in Bakhmut in recent days and could even encircle the forces of the Wagner Group, the Russian group of mercenaries leading the offensive on the city.
