July 23 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Kurdish forces have announced this past Saturday the arrest of a senior official of the Islamic State in northeastern Syria during a joint operation with the international coalition led by the United States.
At the end of the operation, carried out in the province of Deir ez Zor, the so-called Kurdish national security forces, the Asayish, confirmed both the arrest of the jihadist — not yet identified by name — and the seizure of an arsenal, they report in a statement collected by the Kurdish news agency Rudaw.
This arrest is part of the campaign led by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to end the remnants of the jihadist organization that are still operating in the north of the country after its territorial defeat in 2019.
However, these cells are still very active. In fact, and since the beginning of the year, the jihadists have launched more than 80 attacks against the SDF and the Kurdish administration in the area of northeast Syria, better known as Rojava.
