Kurdish activist convicted of killing policeman executed in Iran

23 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Iranian authorities on Wednesday executed a Kurdish activist convicted of killing a policeman and his membership of the Komala group, which Tehran considers a terrorist organization.

According to information collected by the Iranian news agency Fars, the man, identified as Arash Ahmadi, was hanged after being sentenced for the murder of an agent, without giving further details about the case.

The Norwegian-based non-governmental organization Hengaw has detailed that the man, whom it has described as “a political activist”, had been imprisoned for two years and added that he was executed “in secret” in a Kermanshá prison.

He has also stressed that Ahmadi was arrested by the Iranian security forces in January 2021 when he was trying to travel to Europe, after which he was transferred to a detention center of the Intelligence services in Kermanshá. Subsequently, he was sentenced to death for the 2017 murder of a police officer, an attack claimed by the Red Flag Fighters group.

Iran has carried out numerous operations in the country and even bombardments in the semi-autonomous region of Iraqi Kurdistan against positions of Komala, the Kurdistan Freedom Party (PAK), the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran (KIDP) and the Party for a Free Life for Kurdistan (PJAK), which it considers to be terrorist groups.
