Krafton has presented new coplayable characters (CPC), which it defines as NPCs driven by generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) capable of interacting realistically with users, thanks to the Nvidia ACE previews, which includes new models with capabilities to perceive, react and plan actions.
Nvidia has shared new AI advancements for video games with the introduction of the standalone game characters on Nvidia ACE, the company’s solution that relies on a set of digital human technologies accelerated by RTX to “bring game characters to life” through generative AI.
Within the framework of CES 2025, Nvidia has announced that it is expanding ACE from conversational NPC (non-player character) to “autonomous game characters”, that use AI to perceive, plan and act as if they were human players.
In this way, as explained in a statement on his blogACE allows developers generate more dynamic video game worlds, so that players have an experience accompanied by characters who “understand and support their objectives”, as well as “enemies that dynamically adapt to the player’s tactics.”
That is, users will be able to play with fictional characters powered by generative AI, who will be able to act more like another player would.
To carry out these advances, Nvidia has developed new small language models (SLM) from ACEwhich have the capacity to plan “at human-like frequencies.” In this way, they are able to react and make decisions more realistically.
Likewise, the new ACE SLMs also offer multimodal capabilities for vision and audioallowing AI characters to react to audio and visual signals in the environment.
With all this, the company has exemplified that the characters created with Nvidia ACE can act as autonomous members in a battle squadas well as follow orders, collect and share loot obtained or confront enemies. They can also offer game strategy suggestions or take actions necessary to complete an action without requiring orders from the player.
NEW KRAFTON CPC CHARACTERS
Hand in hand with advances in Nvidia ACE technology, Krafton has presented a new coplayable characters (CPC) option, those whom he defines as characters NPCs that “come to life with generative AI”, and which it has integrated with demos in its inZOI and PUBG: Battlegrounds video game franchises.
Also within the framework of CES 2025, the video game company has shown this “innovative” experience with which it has signaled its intention to advance the future of video games, thanks to the introduction of characters capable of dynamically interacting with playersas detailed in a communicated on its website.
Specifically, Krafton has noted that powered by improved Nvidia ACE technology and its new SLM models, CPC characters can interact with players with real-time conversations, strategic cooperation and flexible responses adapted to game scenarios.
Thus, in the case of your PUBG franchisethe technology company has presented ‘PUBG Ally’a CPC capable of engaging in informal conversations with players, as well as proposing strategies and “refining the game” by adapting to the dynamics of the user in question.
For its part, in the case of the video game inZOIKrafton has released ‘Smart Zoi’a CPC character who displays “distinctive personality traits and emotional depth.” As the company explained, this offers “highly immersive” simulation experiences through realistic interactions with users.
“We will continue to innovate user experiences by integrating CPC into our games and our goal is establish it as a benchmark for the gaming industry“concluded the director of Krafton’s deep learning division, Kangwook Lee, while underlining the “transformative potential” of AI in games.
