The director general of the National Museum of Korea, Yoon Sung Yong, has opened the special exhibition Ceramics from the National Museum of Korea: Voices from an Ancient Culture which “shows the beauty of our traditional culture and the value of cultural heritage in the Gold Museum, Colombia” as expressed by Yoon.
As this year is the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Colombia, this large-scale exhibition of Korean cultural heritage held in Colombia for the first time will go a long way in enhancing friendly relations between the two nations.
Furthermore, by presenting the excellence of Korean traditional culture, the National Museum of Korea intends to use this opportunity to broaden Latin America’s interest in Korean popular culture.
The Gold Museum, where this special exhibition takes place, is the representative museum of Colombia located in Bogotá. It is famous for its world-class gold craftsmanship, and the National Museum of Korea has successfully held a special exhibition “El Dorado – the spirits, the gold and the shaman” that presented the collections of the Colombian Gold Museum in 2018.
This exhibition presents the life, culture, and art world of Koreans from prehistory to modern times through earthenware and ceramics infused with the craftsmanship and artistic spirit of the Korean people.
